Apprentice Control Systems Engineer

Posting Expires: 31 August 2018
Position Type: Full time, with day release for college.

A fantastic opportunity to complete a comprehensive apprenticeship at a forward-thinking company, ultimately leading to a career at the cutting edge of manufacturing technology as a Control Systems Engineer.

Role and Responsibilities

You will gain experience during your apprenticeship within the different divisions of ACS and will learn aspects of –

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Control Panel Design
  • Manufacture and Industrial Software Engineering, including logic control, animated graphics, data logging & reporting

You will be assigned a designated mentor and will continually be challenged and expected to work to the highest standards.

Your progress will be continually monitored and assessed to ensure that your development needs are being met.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Minimum 5 GCSE’s Grade A-C equivalent, including Maths, English and Science.

Desired Skills

  • Be a good communicator
  • Able to work from instruction and as part of a team
  • Good Maths and ICT Skills
  • Any programming experience with Visual Basic, Arduino or Raspberry Pi is useful but not essential

Personal Qualities

  • Good communication
  • Well organised
  • Motivated to succeed
  • Able to show initiative
  • A logical thinker
  • Willing to be patient and show outstanding attention to detail.

Things to consider

Must be able to get to employer premises on a daily basis and to Derby College for day release formal training.

There may be a requirement to work away from home as experience is gained.

This is not expected in the first year and will always be supervised and all expenses covered.

Electrical Engineer

AutoCAD Electrical experience essential, the job role is to design bespoke electrical MCC/PLC control systems from customer’s requirement specifications, working to process industry standards, then develop detailed layouts and parts lists for build, working within a small dedicated team.

Must have minimum 2 years’ experience working on process automation control systems, be able to read AutoCAD drawings, select the correct components from itemised parts list, build backplates from detailed drawings and be an active member of the team.
